The A30/A35 runs east/west along the South Coast of England. In holiday periods it is an important main traffic route for large numbers of visitors to and from the West Country. In July 1996, Connect Roads won a 30 year DBFO concession for both: the circa 22 km section of the A30 from the M5 to the Honiton bypass [NOTE – the A30 section is made up of 22km new concrete road Exeter – Honiton + old asphalt road Honiton Bypass] and the approximately 80 km stretch of the A35 from Honiton to Bere Regis. The project included 31 km of new construction: 22 km of the A30 dual carriageway from the M5 (near Exeter) to Honiton and the 9 km A35 Tolpuddle/Puddletown dual carriageway Bypass. The existing sections are mostly unimproved single carriageway with occasional dual carriageway. The entire 102 km concession includes roughly 60 structures, the only significant one being the St. George’s Road viaduct in Dorchester.
