The Carlisle Northern Development Corridor concession covered the design, build, finance, maintenance and operation of 8.25 km of the A689. This spans from Junction 44 of the M6 northeast of Carlisle to the junction with the A595 southwest of Carlisle, essentially forming a by-pass to the town’s northwest. The concession also encompasses the management, operation, and on-going investment in approximately 148 km of other existing Cumbrian roads (namely parts of the A7, A594, A595, A596, A689 and the A6071). New structures included 3 bridges, 3 underpasses, and 15 flood relief culverts.
