Chilean mining company Codelco tendered a desalination plant to provide treated water to the company's mining operations in Antofagasta. The project will have a capacity of 630 l/s and a potential of 1,680 l/s. The works include the desalination plant, with UF pre-treatment at Caleta Viuda, 14km south of Tocopilla near Antofagasta. The project will serve phase II of the Radomiro Tomic sulphides mine and concentrator facility by means of a 160km pipeline and five pumping stations.The contract will be developed through a BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) business model, with an overall capex in excess of 2bn.
